The First Metro in Thailand.
On August 9, 1999, His Majesty the King graciously bestowed the name “The M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon” which means “Celebration of the Auspicious Kingship” on the Metro Project, Hua Lamphong – Bang Sue Route, that has 18 stations along the over 20 kilometers distance.
Being one of Bangkok’s heavy mass rapid transit, the M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line has become the first metro in Thailand because its initial system section of Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue is the first railway system in Thailand that kept on underground level.
